NYCE OVERVIEW
Objective:
The National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (NYEC) provides students from JK to Grade 12 with an opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial thinking by developing and presenting innovative ideas in a structured national competition.
This year, the challenge features two divisions designed to support different age groups. The Junior Challenge (JK–Grade 6) focuses on introducing students to entrepreneurship through short pitch presentations and a live finals experience, while the Senior Challenge (Grades 7–12) allows students to explore more advanced ideas through written proposals and recorded pitch presentations.
The NYEC is designed to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills while supporting students in developing a practical understanding of business concepts. Participants are encouraged to explore real-world problems, propose thoughtful solutions, and consider how ideas can be developed into viable and responsible business concepts.
Structured to promote academic growth and self-confidence, the challenge provides students with an opportunity to practice presenting their ideas, refine their reasoning, and engage with entrepreneurial thinking in a supportive environment. Younger students benefit from developing early public speaking skills, while older students are able to explore innovation, research, and business strategy at a deeper level.
Participants are encouraged to consider not only how their ideas function, but also their broader impact. This includes thoughtful consideration of people and communities, animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and how products or services are designed and used in ways that promote responsible consumer behaviour.
Family members, school peers, and the broader youth community may be invited to watch and support Junior Challenge finalist presentations during the live event.
Senior Challenge submissions are reviewed by judges in advance, allowing students to participate flexibly without requiring attendance at a live event.
Awards for top performers include features in the Brilliant Youth Series of Winner Magazine, along with certificates recognizing participation, distinction, and achievement.
The next challenge will take place in May 2026, with the initial participant submission deadline of April 23rd. Finalists will receive a more detailed guide on presentation planning through member organizations.
